With the Thanksgiving holiday season around the corner, a lot of us are getting ready to welcome our close families and friends to our dinner tables! Even though this year’s Thanksgiving celebration might look a little smaller or different, the question remains: How do I create a beautiful tablescape that will impress my guests? Read on to learn the team here at Joshua Allen Design’s favorite tips for setting the table.
1. Lay down the basics with a runner (skip the table cloth if you can) to anchor your design and provide protection for your table against hot dishes of food.
2. Add in taper candles (not jar candles) in odd numbers and diferent heights
and opt for pretty candle holders.
3. Weave in a realistic leafy garland and don’t be afraid to take it apart and scatter
bits around!
4. Add an additional element: pumpkins, gourds, pinecones, anything you like.
5. Scatter small pieces (i.e. wooden leaves, broken apart pieces of garland, pinecones) to unite the tablescape’s individual elements.
6. For a more traditional look, or if your table is round, opt for an oversized
hurricane vase in the center and fll it with a large candle, just be sure to leave
room for the turkey!
7. If you’re hosting an outdoor pandemic-friendly celebration (weather permitting) all these tips still apply. Also, we recommend using lanterns for outdoor settings as they provide a great place to keep tea lights to set the mood.
8. Don’t forget about the chandelier above your table. Adding garland to it
makes it feel like part of the centerpiece and unites your whole room.
9. Speaking of your lighting, warm lights help set the happy and inviting mood.
Pass the pie, please!
10. Keep your table settings simple, don’t overdo it with tons of plates and silverware–this will distract from your beautiful tablescape. And there you have it!
