On Monday, May 9, 920 voters turned out for the Annual Town Election, representing 16 percent of Sterling’s eligible voters.
Robert Cutler lost his position on the Board of Selectmen, and incumbent Michael Rivers lost seats on both the Sterling Municipal Light Board and the Board of Assessors.
In the race for a three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen, Richard Lane won 533 votes to beat out incumbent Robert Cutler’s 366 votes.
Incumbent Allen Hoffman was re-elected to the Board of Health for another three-year term with 561 votes, beating opponent Michael Cove, who won 332 votes.
Richard Sheppard was elected to a 3-year term on the Board of Assessors by a narrow margin of 467 votes against incumbent Michael Rivers’ 414.
Joseph Curtin won a 3-year term on the Sterling Municipal Light Board with 537 votes, beating out incumbent Michael Rivers’ 353.
Incumbent Michael Pineo won another 3-year term as Constable with 608 votes against Joseph Ruggiero at 270.
In uncontested races, Donald Harding was re-elected to the DPW Board for another 3-year term, Sarah Petullo and incumbent Albert Carlin were elected to 3-year terms on the Board of Library Trustees, Ann Kokernak was elected to the Sterling Housing Authority for 5 years, and David Shapiro was elected to the Planning Board for a 5-year term.
There were no candidates for one seat on the Wachusett Regional School District Committee for a 3-year term.
