Art In The Park
The Mass Cultural Council and the Sterling Cultural Council plan to hold Art in the Park Aug. 21st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Town Common and Memorial Park. The rain date is Aug. 28. Please join us to celebrate the talents of local and regional artists. Craft booths and art, in all forms, will be part of this cultural event.
Host Families Needed
Open your home and heart to an International Exchange Student from a variety of eight countries. They are 15 to 18 years old, fully insured, bring their own spending money, all speak English, and would attend your local high school where the family lives for the 2021-2022 academic school year.
Host families are asked to provide a bed and meals. Host families can be a single parent, those with very young children who would enjoy a big brother or sister, those with middle school or high school aged children or those where the children are grown and no longer live at home. Perfect matches can be made between the common interests of the host family and those of the student.
An Exchange Student can share a room with another sibling. Learn about another culture without even leaving your home and make a friendship for a lifetime!!
A Message from Animal Control Officer Louis Massa
Dog fur is great protection against the cold but can be a problem in hot weather. This is because, unlike humans, dogs eliminate heat by panting.
Dogs have some sweat glands in the footpads which help with heat dissipation but only minimally. When panting isn’t enough, their body temperature rises. This can be fatal if not corrected quickly. Excessive panting and signs of discomfort indicate overheating.
However, it is important to be aware of the ambient temperature and take appropriate preventative measures. Any hot environment can cause heatstroke, but the most common cause is careless actions such as leaving a dog in a car on a hot day or forgetting to provide shade to an animal kept outdoors.
Your dog can overheat in less than 10 minutes if left in your vehicle in the extreme heat.
Friendly reminder to PLEASE leave your dog at home in these extreme conditions.
