When former longtime Sterling resident Matt Majikas heard that his wife Kristen (Turbide) Majikas’s due date with their first child was February 10, he immediately had a premonition.
“When the doctor gave us a due date, the next sentence out of my mouth was, ‘God has a sense of humor, and with my luck it will be during the Super Bowl and the Patriots will be playing’,” Matt recalls.
Sure enough the Patriots made it into the Super Bowl, and Kristen went into labor on Super Bowl Sunday morning.
“I woke up at 4:30 a.m. with what I thought were contractions but couldn’t be sure, so I went back to bed,” says Kristen. “As the day wore on, I knew it was the real thing. Being a first time mom, I was a bit scared, but mostly excited knowing it was only a matter of time before we met our little boy.”
Matt says he fervently hoped that the labor and delivery rooms had televisions.
Vincent ‘Vinny’ Mark Majikas was born at 7:53 a.m. on Monday, February 2, after the Patriots won the Super Bowl the previous night. He was born at HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster, weighing 8 pounds and 3 ounces.
Matt had selected Groundhog Day, February 2, in their baby pool and won $35. In addition, it was his late grandfather, Kenneth Gallagher, Sr.’s, birthday.
Proud grandparents Mark and Carla Turbide of Leominster, and Dennis and Kathy Majikas of Sterling were equally delighted to welcome the newest member of the family, the first grandchild on either side.
