The Sterling Animal Control Department partnered with the VCA Sterling Animal Hospital and its numerous vets, staff, and volunteers to successfully vaccinate 83 cats and dogs against rabies last month. According to Animal Control Officer Louis Massa, veterinarians have had to book appointments further and further out because of delays due to COVID-19, and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies before they can be registered with the town. “That is the main reason why we do this,” Massa said.
According to Massa, it is critical to vaccinate pets against rabies, though fortunately “[rabies] is way down on numbers.” Massa added that this clinic has run every year for over a decade, and that there hasn’t been a positive case of rabies in Sterling in two or three years.
