“Every day is a good hair day” at Pink Sunday Salon & Suites, a full-service salon located at 75 Main Street in Clinton. The salon, which officially opened for business in mid-January, offers a range of services to make clients look and feel their best from head to toe.

“Pink Sunday offers something for everyone,” co-owner Sarah Jacobs said. “One of the salon’s main goals is to be a place where anyone can get what they want in the way of beauty and personal care.” In addition to hair cutting, extensions, and custom hair color, the salon offers facials, waxing, spray tanning, permanent jewelry, and services for nails, eyebrows, and eyelashes.

Jacobs, who graduated from Assumption University in May, co-owns and manages Pink Sunday with business partners Tori Judd and Garrett Hardy. Jacobs and Judd became best friends several years ago while working at the same salon.

The two friends, who dreamed of opening their own salon, rented a suite together where they could work on clients, but quickly outgrew the space. In the summer of 2023, they came across the space that is now home to Pink Sunday Salon. They decided to make the move to the larger space in the fall of the same year.

“The timing was challenging,” Jacobs said. “Tori and Garrett were planning their wedding, and I had begun my senior year in college. But we knew that the space we had found for expanding our business was right for us, and we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity.”

Jacobs, who is from Sterling, always knew she wanted to become a hair stylist. At the age of 14, she entered a cosmetology program offered at the technical high school she attended. By the time she was 17, she had accrued the 1000 hours of field work required to apply for a cosmetology license in Massachusetts – which she did, and received on her first try.

Now, at 22, Jacobs is co-owner of a vibrant local business in the up-and-coming town of Clinton. “It’s been five years of hard work to get where I am now,” she said. “I’ve been working my way up since I got my license. The same goes for Tori, my best friend and business partner.

“Owning a business with your best friend is very special,” she said. “Having the two of us to do the work has helped. We could not have done it without each other.”

Pink Sunday Salon & Suites has 11 workers and staff members, including the stylists and cosmetologists who rent suites at the salon. It is open on an as-needed basis to accommodate the busy schedules of both clients and employees. Each stylist has a key to the salon and can book an appointment for any time that is convenient for both her and her client. This flexible business model allows the stylists to work whatever hours they want, encouraging work-life balance. “We want to give our employees as much freedom as we can,” Jacobs said. “One of the best things about the salon is working with an awesome group of girls, who are as passionate about their craft as I am.”

Although starting as a full-time student while opening a business had been a challenge, Jacobs, a marketing major with a concentration in digital marketing, has been able to successfully apply what she has learned in college to running the business. Her social media background has been particularly useful in helping her market the salon.

Jacobs enthusiastically encourages anyone who wants to open their own business to pursue their dreams. “Just go for it,” she said. “Take the leap, because if you have the dream, it will work out for you!”
