The Sterling Police Department was proud to induct a familiar face to the force on July 14th, 2022. Andy Dipeitro, who is a longtime resident of Sterling and was a former dispatcher for the police department, was surrounded by his chief, his wife, and his colleagues during his swearing-in ceremony.
Chief Gaudette began the ceremony by talking about Officer Dipeitro’s history with the Sterling Police Department and stated that “everyone here [in Sterling and at the police department] is happy to have him back.” He also said that Officer Dipeitro had “matured a lot in a short amount of time” and that “he is a perfect fit” for the department.
After being sworn in by Sterling’s town clerk Kathy Farrell, Officer Dipeitro spoke to the crowd, consisting of men and women from his department, his wife, and Sterling firefighters who came to support their brother in blue.
“Once again, I have the pleasure of working for the Sterling Police Department. I am so
excited to serve this town and these great people again,” Officer Dipeitro said.
At 24 years old, Officer Dipeitro has quite the impressive resume. With extensive experience in law enforcement, not only has he worked in Sterling as a dispatcher, but he has worked as a part-time police officer in Hubbardston, and most recently, he was a detective in Rutland for the past 18 months.
In addition to his policing experience, Officer Dipeitro is educated and experienced in a wide range of credentials. He was once a per diem firefighter and paramedic, but stated that he “came back to the blue team,” because it “felt like the right fit.” Additionally, Officer Dipeitro is trained in sexual assault investigation, he’s a hand gun instructor, and he’s skilled in shot gun and rifle handling. He also stated that he is “certified” in police motorcycling.
Officer Dipeitro’s wife, Lauren, was present at the ceremony and pinned him after he was inducted into the department. Mrs. Dipeitro is also from Sterling, and was ‘pinning for two,’ as she is pregnant with the couple’s first child. She stated that she was happy her husband was working for the Sterling Police Department, as this is “a great place to raise a child and a family.” Officer Dipeitro and Mrs. Dipeitro are expecting their baby girl to be born in August, whom they plan to name Leah Joy.
“This is home. I flourished as a dispatcher because of the wonderful men and women on the Sterling Police Department. With Chief Gaudette’s guidance, I hope to flourish as a patrolman as well,” Officer Dipeitro stated.
As one of the town’s finest, as well as a soon-to-be new dad, Sterling is delighted to welcome Officer Dipeitro back to the blue family, and is excited for him to begin his own in this great community.
