Following a public hearing on June 27, the Sterling Board of Selectmen approved an annual beer and wine license for Davis Farmland. Beer and wine will now be available for purchase throughout the premises, and can only be consumed within the fenced-in boundaries of the farm’s 13.7 acres.

A special wristband obtained at the point of sale for admission tickets to the farm will entitle customers to a maximum of four alcoholic beverages. TIPS (Training for Intervention ProcedureS)-certified employees will dispense the wristbands, check IDs, and be responsible for serving alcohol to customers. Wristband colors will rotate and must be worn, preventing the transfer of wristbands from person to person.

“We offer great food at Farmland, great fun, and a great family day,” said Larry Davis, who was approved as the liquor manager. “Now we can offer craft beer or wine as well. The idea isn’t to get drunk, but to create a great experience.”
Selectman Maureen Cranson questioned the need to offer beer and wine, but recused herself from the vote, citing financial interests.

Under the terms of the license, alcohol can be served from 11:30 a.m. until midnight, which will accommodate events that take place outside of normal hours of operations.
