The COVID-19 pandemic has affected businesses, families, and overall everyday life – though some businesses pushed through the hardships and still delivered their everyday services to the public.
The Sterling Economic Development Committee visited Meadowbrook Orchards on Tuesday July 27, 2021, to recognize David Chandler, general manager at Meadowbrook Orchards and his mother, Kathy Chandler with a plaque for their work during the pandemic.
Keith Cordial, a Sterling resident and member of the Sterling Economic Development Committee posted on February 24, 2021 on the Sterling Community Facebook page asking residents which businesses to recognize for their work during COVID-19.
The post from Cordial said, “… I would like to state that we should all be proud of our local businesses for their support and perseverance over the last year during the pandemic. Sterling’s Economic Development Committee would like to recognize Sterling businesses who have gone above and beyond for our community.
“We would like to know about your experiences and opinions concerning businesses in Sterling that you feel should be recognized for their service during the pandemic.”
Residents nominated businesses in the comments of that post.
The post got 63 comments and out of those, 26 people voted [commented] for Meadowbrook Orchards to receive this recognition.
David Chandler said, “it was nice to read.”
The recognition [plaque] said, “On behalf of the town of Sterling’s Economic Development Committee we would like to recognize and thank Meadowbrook Orchards for their ongoing generous support and contributions during the year 2020,” said Chandler.
Chandler added, “It is more of a recognition for the hard work we handled for the last year- well year and a half now – that we have really worked hard to give the people what they want and as well help while we can.”
He said that he would like to thank his staff for making it possible for them to receive this recognition due to all their hard work during this difficult time.
Chandler added it was “definitely not expected,” and he would like to thank everyone in the town of Sterling and in the Committee for the recognition.
Kathy Chandler said, “I am so very proud of the direction we are going. David has taken us to a new place. We are both humbled by the recognition from the community and appreciate the local support from the community.”
Though it has been a difficult time for everyone, they [Meadowbrook Orchards] are happy to help in any way possible to make everyone’s lives easier, Kathy Chandler added.
