Michelle Boyce knew she wanted to work for the Town because she said she has always had a “special connection” to Sterling.
On July 1, 2021, she was hired as the new Assistant Town Clerk, and she was very “excited” about this position.
“My stepdad was Sterling’s head custodian who took care of all three schools in Town when I was younger,” said Boyce. “I have many memories of coming to see him while he was at work and ‘helping.’”
She added, “Sadly, he passed away very unexpectedly 11 years ago, but I feel a sense of nostalgia being here each day.”
Boyce grew up in Holden, Massachusetts and has always had a desire to help others. She graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1993 and currently lives in Princeton.
After working as a mortgage loan processor and a lead technician, Boyce took time to focus her energy onto her daughter who required heart transplant surgery. Boyce’s new role as Assistant Town Clerk is her first position back in the workforce since then.
She said that working this job is going to give her the opportunity to help people, work for a small community, and get to know all the residents.
Boyce added that she learned about this position through “good old-fashioned networking.”
She said, what secured her position was her many years of clerical knowledge and experience.
“Along with my knowledge of bookkeeping, record keeping, managing skills, organizational skills and also customer service, just to name a few,” she added.
Since starting this position, Boyce said, one of the best parts of her job is getting the chance to reconnect with people she knows in the community.
Boyce added that she gets to offer the residents any support they might need which is another amazing part about her job.
“I also learn something new each and every day, and I love that, it keeps it interesting,” said Boyce.
She added, “It’s also a privilege to work in a town where the community is strong, supportive of one another, as well as family oriented, and I appreciate the added character of a Right-to-Farm Town.”
Boyce said that there are many different aspects of her job such as, “elections, census, processing vital records, DBA’s, dog licensing, record keeping, and much more.”
Boyce said that her job involves dealing with a lot of confidential information.
“Due to the variety of and access to confidential information processed by the Clerk’s office, we maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and professional protocols,” she said.
Boyce added that she is planning on staying with the Town until retirement.
